Thursday's Field Trip

Thursday, Antonio (4th grade homeroom, 3rd and 4th grade Science/Social Studies teacher) and I took 4th grade on a field trip walking around Priego. We went to the Royal Slaughterhouse (an old building with a courtyard and basement (which was used for slaughtering). Then we went to the Castle, but couldn't get in because they're working on reconstructing it. Finally we walked through the old part of the town and visited a church.

Each child had to memorize a sentence about the places we were visiting. In class, we had practiced the sentences and made sure the kids knew what they meant. I was really proud of the kids. They did a great job. Almost all of them knew their sentences. Along the way, we asked them about some of the vocabulary, and they knew that too.

The kids behaved really well (for the most part). We took tons of pictures along the way. The trip wound up being much longer than we thought. We left school a little before ten and had planned on returning by 11:30 (in time for recess). We didn't get back until 12:30 and I had to leave school at 12:45. This meant that I missed my last class with 6th grade. Oh well. I was sad about that, but I really enjoyed watching the field trip happen (we had talked about doing it for two months).
